Furla Introduces its BOLD Autumn - Winter 2013 Collection

This collection takes you on a 24-hour tour of fashion staples that reflect the city from top-to-toe. Furla has recreated winter fashion accessories with a city inspired range using the petrol blue skyline, skyscrapers and urban colours as their muse.

For the morning, Furla bags showcase new graphic designs, microprints and hand-crafted details that mirror the energy of the modern day woman and all her demands.

For the everyday bag, eclectic elegance combined with intense work activity are beautifully accommodated with audacious animal prints and the boldest yet colour ways this season. Expect to find yellow, orange, fuchsia, lipstick red, grape purple, emerald green and pops of neon embellished in leather.

As evening draws near and brings with it the desire for a night out on the town; fun, feminine materials with semi-transparent glittery rubber and metallic nappa leathers recall the skyscrapers and bright lights of the metropolitan.

Furla’s collection presents strong and unconventional tones, for a season that defies negativity under a reign of colour and artistic design. The main character of the new collection challenges all forms of pessimism through a dynamic visual message. As always, the Furla brand creates a dialogue between art and fashion for women who speak in modern, elegant and authentic tones.

The shapes and lines for the new collection are rigid and geometrically bold with the intention of attracting attention to key accessories. Textures are multi-dimensional to reflect the essence of city living from dusk to dawn. All elements are hand-crafted from the finest Nappa leather found in Italy. Furla’s collection also includes boots, shoes, belts, accessories and jewelry to compliment the new range.

About Traffic Clothing

Traffic Live has brought on-trend street fashion to Cape Town’s fashion lovers since 2004. The brand offers a bold and edgy range of women’s and men’s clothing available in their Long Street, Canal Walk and Cavendish Stores and has recently appointed a new creative team to take Traffic Live and its community to new heights. The Winter Fashion Show 2013 marks this exciting new direction for Traffic Live.

From inception the brand’s roots were deeply entrenched in the street culture aesthetic, resonating with a youth market that identified with hip-hop music, skateboarding and nightlife. In recent years the range has diversified and now reflects a celebration of Cape Town street culture as a whole.

Through the eyes of Traffic Live, the city’s streets are a diverse showcase of the best in fashion, art, culture and lifestyle. A brand new logo has launched digitally to reflect this growth and the rebrand will be rolled out across all Traffic Live stores during 2013. An e-commerce store will be launching in September 2013 that will extend the offering nationally. No guests will be allowed to enter the event once the show has started, or while it is running.

Earn Your Stripes with Signature Jordy Smith Oakley Sunglasses

Ranked as one of the best surfers in the world, Jordy Smith is proud to be launching his new Oakley sunglasses. The EARN YOUR STRIPES campaign will feature three Jeep Wrangler Sahara's emblazoned in zebra stripes, hitting the streets of Cape Town, Johannesburg and Durban. Those who spot them around town stand a chance of winning a pair of Jordy Smith Signature Series Sunglasses or the star-prize of a surf trip for two to the island of Bali.

Jordy wanted to produce a range of sunglasses, which can be used for extreme sports but also, look stylish enough to be worn everyday. Because he spends a lot of time surrounded by sun-drenched scenery, it was important that his Signature sunglasses be packed with cutting-edge technology.

Including Oakley HDPolarized lenses which are optimized with the clarity and impact resistance of High Definition Optics. Being some of the best polarized lenses on the planet, they filter out 100% UVA, UVB and UVC, helping Jordy maintain sharp colour recognition whilst living his adventure-filled life.

In addition to blocking out all UV, the 0 Matter frames have Unobtainium added to the earstems so that they actually grip better when you sweat, ensuring comfort all day long. The ear-stems and their metal bands were inspired by switchblade knives; the result being a range of sleek Oakley sunglasses with sporty yet modern frames that don’t try too hard. The Oakley Jupiter Squared shape says attitude with refinement. Paying homage to Jordy’s South African homeland every pair has a unique zebra stripe in the Oakley frame ‘O’ and give the included Microclear bag its own custom look.

The iconic zebra-striped Jeep Wrangler Sahara's will be found at various hot spots, big events and interesting destinations in the three cities over the next month including Camps Bay, V&A Waterfront and False Bay in Cape Town, Umhlanga, Gateway Shopping Centre and Ballito in Durban and Parkhurst, Sandton and Soccer City in Johannesburg.

Wola Nani Embracing The World

Wola Nani, which is Xhosa for ‘embrace’, was established in 1994 and supports women, orphans and vulnerable children infected and affected by the HIV/AIDS pandemic.  Helping its women crafters develop a skill and earn a sustainable and regular income with dignity. Through a developmental, self help approach the project’s members have been enabled to take greater control of their lives and achieve a better quality of life.

Crafts include beaded ribbons, bracelets and napkin rings, papier mache bowls and picture frames, light bulbs, tea lights and cards. They are distributed extensively throughout South Africa and overseas. Their colourful, cheerful designs are widely recognised and they enjoy the Proudly South African endorsement.

Wola Nani also produce custom-made designs in response to specific requests e.g. items for dinners, Christmas cards, conference items (such as nametags, place settings, etc) and book marks.
If you are interested in commissioning a particular design, please contact them or visit one of the many outlets selling their products both locally and internationally.

Launching its first pop-up store at Cavendish Square last December to tremendous success, during the holiday season offering a variety of exclusive product lines. Including paper-mache bangles in an African print, “eyes design” as well as the introduction of the “Sea-farer” pattern paper-mache bowl.  The store also offered Wola Nani’s other best-selling handcrafted product ranges such as home accessories, bead work and jewellery.  These products ranges can also be previewed at Wola Nani Website

Brenda Bibby, Centre Manager of Cavendish Square said, “As World AIDS Day is marked in December, we are supporting the work of Wola Nani by providing them with a retail outlet in Cape Town’s foremost mall during peak shopping season.  We are thrilled to offer them a pop-up shop where they can showcase their wonderful designs and colourful products; providing our shoppers with unique and distinctive lines not available anywhere else.  These products make great gifts because proceeds go towards a good cause.”

The beaded square, worn as a brooch or necklace, is a traditional Zulu love letter. In its symbolic arrangement of colour and pattern are woven the hopes and desires of the wearers. The beaded AIDS ribbon draws both on this ethnic tradition and on the international recognition of the red ribbon as a symbol of solidarity and compassion for all those affected by HIV/AIDS. By wearing this symbol, you reflect your support of global AIDS awareness. View it at the craftshop.

Hackett of London launches at Sandton City

Quintessential British men’s outfitters Hackett London launched its flagship store in Sandton City’s brand new mall space one of two stores in South Africa; the other at OR Tambo International Airport. The luxury British menswear, children’s wear and accessories brand opened its first store on the Kings Road in London selling second hand vintage clothes from Portobello market.

The store concept takes its inspiration from the famous and typically British exterior of Number 10 Downing Street, creating a residential feel inspired by a traditional London townhouse through the use of wooden panelling and black bricks. The starting point for the design focuses on the British Georgian period, particularly the style of architect Sir John Sloane whose simple and classic yet strong approach to design, reflects the very essence of Hackett. The timeless furniture and furnishings have been updated with a modern twist to provide distinctive focal points around the store.
Jeremy Hackett

Hackett clothing takes its inspiration from the traditions of British dress without being old-fashioned; as such it describes its products as “evolutionary rather than revolutionary.” Hackett clothing is for men who wish to dress stylishly and to whom quality is more important than the vagaries of fashion.

Parts of the range are much the same as they were twenty years ago, but as co-founder Jeremy Hackett says, "our clothes wear in, not out.” Hackett’s aim is to dress men for any occasion whether for the business, formal, country or sporting contexts which are perfectly encapsulated under the strap-line ‘Essential British Kit’. The 'Little Britons' range increasingly caters for the younger "man's" clothing needs.

Awarded the Queen’s Award for Enterprise in International Trade

The Queen’s Award for Enterprise is the highest accolade for business success and honours outstanding UK companies and helps encourage the development of British business at home and internationally. The Awards are presented annually and approved by The Queen, on the recommendation of the UK Prime Minister. The last six years have been a particularly exciting time for the brand as it has expanded its retail and wholesale footprint across the globe including its recent expansion into Africa through its South African stores.

Another key factor is the successful execution of desirable sponsorship deals with leading British and international sporting and social events. Hackett has managed to position itself within the social calendar with events such as The Boat Race, international polo and tennis as well as its long standing association with Aston Martin Racing. The international expansion continues into 2012, with the opening of a 3,500 sq ft flagship store in Milan last month and the local store launch in Johannesburg.

Kirsten Goss Launches In Jozi

“I am thrilled to finally bring my work to Egoli, the Zulu name for Johannesburg which means, the place of gold. A natural home for the brand,” says Kirsten Goss. “The Jozi opening has been timed to coincide with the launch of both a new precious collection and a new branding pattern inspired by the atomic structure of gold.”

The internationally adored brand has officially found a permanent home in Jozi – with a brand new store in the Birdhaven Centre – shop 2a, 66 St Andrews Street in Birdhaven. Globally celebrated the fact that it belongs to a local protégé of precious jewellery makes the Jozi launch all the more exciting for her large local following.

Necklace

Kirsten launched her business in London in 2002 and celebrities and celebrators alike frequent the flagship store in Kensington, which was opened in 2005.  From humble beginnings in a modest studio, Kirsten grew her collection into an internationally sought after brand with a fiercely loyal and diverse fan base – including the royal circle and celebs such as Sarah Jessica Parker and Rosamund Pike. Have a look at the Christmas Wishlist and you'll see why.

Although the brand’s aesthetic is distinctive and instantly recognisable, it is somewhat hard to define.  Each collection’s clean, organic lines reflect Kirsten’s Scandinavian bloodline, while her exuberant use of colour reveals her unique African upbringing. The young designer’s knack for experimenting with form and texture is also visible in every piece.

For Jozi’s vast community of jewellery aficionados and lovers of all things shiny and new, the arrival of Kirsten Goss is an irresistible invitation to celebrate…in style, of course.  For more information, contact the Jozi shop on 011 447 2234 or visit Kirsten Goss Online
